LinkCombo4 is a powerful, yet flexible tool for creating professional looking documents.
LinkCombo4 is a multi-function module that integrates Text/HTML, images, scheduling, and hyperlink features, along with several unique formatting options. This unique combination of features allows the creation of distinctive pages within a DotNetNuke portal. You control the appearance without having to modify the portal style sheet. LinkCombo4's unique system of drill down styles offers multiple levels of control of formatting. For more advanced users, LinkCombo4's unique adaptation of styles provides the means to apply individual style elements to each instance of the module.
The LinkCombo4 module produces a list of articles with image links or hyperlinks, or both image links and hyperlinks, to any tab, image or file on your portal or to a web page, image or file on the web. The articles can be set to display vertically, horizontally. The number of rows/columns created before repeating may be specified. Optionally, all hyperlinks may be disabled to take advanteage of LinkCombo4's unique formatting abilities.
Create hyperlinks using text and/or an image. Dynamically resized images reduce page load time and eliminate the need to create thumbnail images. Position your image at top, bottom, left, or right of text. Text wrap available when image is positioned to the left or right of the text.
Schedule when the item is to be displayed and removed. Edit and delete items hidden from the viewer because of start/end date conflicts.
The standard DotNetNuke module inherits the portal style sheet. DotNetNuke design specifications implements a module style sheet that applies the module, overriding the portal style sheet. Unfortunately, this module style sheet is applied to every portal in the DotNetNuke installation. For this reason, it is rarely used, except by the module designer. Formatting of text may be implemented with the Text/HTML editor, but often conflicts with the portal style sheet. Because of these limitations, it is frustrating at best to create a page that deviates from the portal style sheet.
LinkCombo4 implements a system of drill down styles that allow the creation of unique formatting within a page without having to alter the portal style sheet. By default, each item utilizes the portal style sheet. When editing an item the editor has options for applying inline style items that apply only to that individual item. A second option is to apply inline styles to all items in the instance module being edited, thereby creating uniform formatting of all items added to that instance of the module. (Note: Each instance of LinkCombo4 receives its own unique formatting. Applying a style to one instance of LinkCombo4 does not affect other instances of LinkCombo4.) In addition to the above options, the editor may choose to add elements to the portal style sheet that can then be applied to LinkCombo4. For those editors that are skilled in the use of style sheets, this option may be the optimum solution.ÂLinkCombo4 is flexible enough that the style elements created in the portal style sheet may be applied to other instances of LinkCombo4 or applied to only a single instance.ÂLinkCombo4 supports separate styles for the individual item title, the description, and border properties.
The editor has control of the table within which the articles reside. Cell padding and cell spacing may be specified, thus enabling the author to have a degree of control of the separation of items on the page. If desired, a border may be specified, including border width, border style and border color. The width of each item is set automatically to the width of the image, if used. When no image is being used, the column width is set to the default column width, which may be modified in module settings. Each item offers the option to set the column width to the value desired by the author.  When an instance of LinkCombo4 contains multiple items, global column width may be set in the LinkCombo4 settings page. This simplifies the task of creating a uniformly formatted page. If uniform positioning on the page is desired, there is an optional item height setting that will set the minimum height for each item.
Image links may be added to individual items within an instance of LinkCombo4. The image may be dynamically resized, thus avoiding the creation of a thumbnail. By dynamically resizing the image, only the smaller resized image is returned to the browser, thus reducing page load time. The editor has the choice of specifying the image size for each individual image or setting the image size with the module settings that will apply to all images within that instance of LinkCombo4, for a uniform appearance...
An integrated image upload utility allows the editor to upload and resize any image in a single step. The image may be renamed at the same time that it is uploaded.
When using image links and text based descriptions, the editor has the option of placing the image in one of four (4) positions in respect to the text. The image may be on top, at the bottom, to the left, or to the right. When the image is to the left or to the right, the vertical position of the image may be specified. When the image is on top or at the bottom, horizontal alignment may be specified. A unique feature available with LinkCombo4 is that when the image is placed either to the left or to the right of the text, true text wrap may be specified.
The description can be set to appear either full time or on the click of a dynamically generated link. This is very similar to the info link in the standard DotNetNuke Links module. The text for the link to the description may be modified to suite the editor.
There are three options for creating hyperlinks for each item added to the LinkCombo4 module. The default setting assumes that an image will be used as a link. Options are available to select a text link only or to utilize both image linking, as well as a text link. When an option utilizing an image has been selected, an option is available to disable the image link. This feature is particularly handy when the item being edited is informational only and a link is not desired. In the event that the author only wishes to take advantage of the drill down styles options of LinkCombo4, the text links may also be disabled. The result being a beautifully formatted text area rendered to the page.
LinkCombo4 allows scheduling of both start date and end date. Expired items are accessible for editing, modifying start/end dates, and deleting of obsolete items. With the announcements module, you may only schedule the expiration date. When an announcement expires, it is no longer accessible to the editor. It remains in the database until manually removed. The only way to recover an expired announcement is to manually modify the database. There is no easy way to clean up the database of obsolete announcements or to restore expired items.
Link click tracking and logging are available.
